Indoor 2006/07:
October 1, 2006: Wexford Soccer Club appoint Nick Nasiakos as coach of the 1998 boys division.
From October 2006 to March 2007, the boys were training once a week with a few competitions in between to get their playing experience. The boys responded well to Coach Nick's training program and there was considerable improvement during this time period. We started in October with 16 boys and that number grew to 28 by March. We kept 24 of them and put two teams into the SCARDESO outdoor program. The top 12 players were selected to the Gunners and the next best 12 players were selected to the Galaxy.
Outdoor 2007:
The summer season kicked off with our first tournament in Oshawa. The lack of experience showed with both teams as the Gunners team finished 2-2 and the Galaxy finished 0-4. The coaches were still very optimistic. This tournament helped us learn more about our teams strengths and weaknesses and we went right back to training to work on some of the areas we felt were weaker. SCARDESO started and both squads won their first game. The Gunners went on to win many more games and though the Galaxy had an up and down season, most of their losses were by one goal. Something they should be very proud of. The Gunners played in a couple of tournament finals but failed to win a tournament. The boys will get plenty more opportunities to win tournaments. We weren't too concerned about winning this year. Overall the season was a success because the players learned a lot, improved as soccer players and as young gentlemen.
Indoor 2007/08:
The two teams held tryouts at Birchmount Stadium where 35 boys showed up to earn a spot on either team. The Gunners & Galaxy both improved in areas we felt we needed to improve in to compete. Both teams will be playing in the Scarborough Indoor Soccer League and will be training once a week over the winter months. The focus is still on player development and winning will be the gravy.
